Body, feeling, thought, need
Answer each question in one short sentence. Take the first answer that arrives rather than the best one.
- Sit down and close your eyes. Take two unhurried breaths.
- Ask: what is my body doing? Find the tightest place and name it.
- Ask: what is the feeling? Use one word. If several arrive, take the loudest.
- Ask: what is the thought underneath it? Usually a sentence about yourself, someone else, or the future.
- Ask: what do I need in the next hour? Keep it small and possible.
- Open your eyes. Say the four answers to yourself once, in order.
- Do the one small thing you named, or write it down where you will see it.
